Recycle old Christmas gifts in festive amnesty

Sunday, November 16, 2008, 11:00

Sometimes Santa may not suit your needs. People cannot get on with a hat, Lego needs to be let go and certain DVDs may be DVDon'ts.

If any of this sounds familiar, it may be time to jingle all the way to The Fort shopping centre which has just launched a gifts amnesty.

It is inviting shoppers to donate last year's unwanted presents to a worthy cause – KIDS; a charity that helps disabled children and young adults.

"The Fort recognises that we all end up with unwanted gifts from time to time," said a spokesperson for the Erdington centre. "We are delighted," added manager Marjan Horne, "to be supporting such a fantastic charity.

"I hope that shoppers at The Fort support us and give the children at KIDS a super Christmas."

Darren German, regional director of KIDS West Midlands, said: "I am very thankful to The Fort for supporting us this Christmas. All of the children supported by KIDS deserve to have lovely Christmases and I hope that by doing this we can achieve that."

In December, children supported by the charity will be invited to meet Santa at The Fort to receive their gifts.

To help the project, people should deliver gifts to the Centre Management Suite at The Fort by December 15.

Visit kids.org.uk to find out more about the charity.
